About

The Expressions of Homelessness project was started in 2011 at the University of Nevada, Reno in cooperation with the Reno Family Shelter run by Volunteers of America, made possible in part by a Nevada Humanities grant and funding from a Congressionally-directed grant through the US Department of Education  to Nevada Volunteers.  The project consists of an eight-week poetry workshop at the Family Shelter taught by UNR English faculty and a public gallery that displays the poetry written by the students and portraits of residents of the shelter.  The gallery is intended to facilitate discussion and offer perspectives around an important issue.
This blog site is a space for facilitators, volunteers and participants of the project to share their thoughts, experiences and works of art.
